Seattle-based technology company Pure Devices, aiming to simplify the online communication and entertainment experience for every family member with a particular focus on Seniors, has announced the launch of its Kickstarter campaign. The Pure Devices product is an elegant, tabletop touch screen device accelerated by cloud technologies, providing an intuitive experience for a selected set of online services.

For the duration of the Kickstarter campaign the company is offering the device at a discounted price, and for every Kickstarter “backer,” the cloud services subscription fee will be waived for the lifetime of their device. Pure Devices is looking to raise $150,000 over the next 42 days.

The device comes with a preinstalled user-friendly messaging center, cloud accelerated Internet browser, streaming video and music, and a medium for family sharing. Further customization and personalization can be set up and managed, even remotely.

When asked about his inspiration behind the conception, Pure Devices’ founder Eugene Luskin remarked: “The idea stemmed from a day-to-day struggle that I witnessed between my grandmother and her television remote control. Overwhelmed and confused by all the buttons and options, she was completely unable to watch her shows. Eventually, after hours over the phone, I marched over to her house and very simply cut a paper template and affixed it to her remote leaving holes for three buttons — On/Off, Volume, and Change Channel — the only buttons she really needed. Since then, she has never called me with a problem. This experience left an indelible mark on me. Unable to forget my grandmother’s experience, I began to think about the modern computing experience overall. Why not create a device built on simplicity and bare necessity that anyone of any age could understand and navigate immediately? In order to make this a reality, I reached out to my circle of highly skilled colleagues and friends and we set our plan in motion.”

Working in tandem with Pure Devices’ approach to simplifying the computing experience, the device supports each customer with an equally refined and approachable 24/7-concierge service. Following their mantra of simplicity and ease Luskin added: “Unlike the common desktop or laptop computer, this device is completely read-only. It will never ask you to install programs, upgrade your operating system or restart. All of these processes are handled by software running in the cloud, ensuring a user's experience void of upgrades, crashes, viruses, malware, and other hassles.”

During the Kickstarter campaign, pledge options will range from $3.14 to $10,000.
