Digital Door Viewer at Living Lab Smart Technology Home
The Digital Door Viewer (DDV) was recently selected for inclusion in the Living Laboratory of the Nursing Institute of West Central Ohio located in the Dayton suburb of Centerville. The Lab's specific purpose includes creating an awareness of new technologies that enhance the life quality of seniors and the disabled.
In making this announcement, First View Security President Suzette Fowler stated, "This is one more validation of the many useful applications of our Digital Door Viewer. Whether in hotel guest rooms, luxury condominiums, senior multihousing, or ADA assistive living venues, we are proud of the practical application to safety, security and quality of life that the DDV is bringing to so many people."
Debi Sampsel, Executive Director of the Nursing Institute, headquartered at Wright State University, remarked that the DDV is technology that is a comfort feature for seniors and their families. "We consider the DDV to be part of the home's life enhancement technology." she added.
The lab also is expected to be an incubator for technologies meant to help the elderly maintain their independence as long as possible. The Living Laboratory smart technology home is a research facility where disciplines such as medicine, gerontology, engineering, architectural design and even robotics can interact in the exploration of new and better ways to educate future health care personnel, retain experienced nurses and prepare caregivers to work with patients in private homes and across the continuum of care settings.
About the Living Lab
The Living Lab is operated by the Nursing Institute; a collaboration between health care providers, businesses, public health nursing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The mission of the Nursing Institute is to optimize regional health care and serve as a catalyst for evidenced-based nursing practice, research, and education. Wright State University's "Living Laboratory" opened in November at Bethany Village senior community in Centerville, Ohio. The laboratory is collaboration between Graceworks Lutheran Services and the Nursing Institute of West Central Ohio. The two-story house models an intergenerational home environment. The Lab teaches health care professionals to care for patients in their own homes rather than in a hospital or nursing home.
