ATA2022 press release
The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) today held a press briefing at the ATA2022 Annual Conference & Expo featuring updates and announcements from leaders in virtual care and technology innovation. ATA2022 is the event of record for the telehealth industry, convening healthcare professionals, solution providers, researchers, payers and other stakeholders at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center to explore this year’s theme, Now What? Creating Opportunity in a Time of Uncertainty. A second press briefing will be held tomorrow afternoon with announcements from ATA Action, TytoCare, Connect America and more. Following is a summary of today’s announcements: ATA Home Testing Special Interest Group (SIG) The ATA Home Testing SIG continues to advance its critical work to advance health equity and address barriers to the adoption of at-home medical testing services. As part of this effort, the SIG is developing a new white paper covering the need for non-discriminatory regulations and reimbursement for home testing. Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health highlighted the publication of a major scientific study documenting telehealth outcomes in JAMA Network Open. This Johns Hopkins-based research was partially supported by the ATA. The study followed a national cohort of 40.7 million commercially insured persons from July to December 2021. Fourteen-day follow-ups for persons with an initial telehealth visit were compared to persons receiving in-person care. Outcomes for chronic care and non-respiratory acute conditions were comparable, but there were higher rates of emergency department follow up for respiratory-related acute care, likely due to COVID concerns.
