Ambio Health Debuts Ambio Remote Monitoring System at CES 2013
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ambio Health, a healthcare technology company, today announced the debut of its Ambio Remote Health Monitoring System, a wireless health monitoring product. The company is demoing the product at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Digital Health Summit, held from January 9-10, 2013.
“In addition, numerous studies have shown that remote health monitoring reduces expensive hospitalizations and ER visits for chronic diseases such as heart disease, lung disease and diabetes. However, most remote health monitoring solutions can only be cost-justified for those most at risk of hospitalization.”
The Ambio Remote Health Monitoring System monitors weight, blood pressure, and blood glucose levels, and was built from the ground up to meet the needs of patients, their families, and healthcare and managed care providers.
“According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chronic diseases are among the most common, costly and preventable of all health problems in the country,” said Kevin Jones, chief executive officer of Ambio Health. “We set out to create a health monitoring system that is affordable and easy to use. We will continue to enhance the product this year to address a wider range of needs for patients suffering from chronic diseases.”
In the second quarter of 2013, the Ambio Remote Activity Monitoring System will add PIR motion sensors and door/window sensors.
The Ambio Remote Health Monitoring System costs significantly less than competing monitoring solutions, creating a more affordable option for consumers. Healthcare systems will also realize cost efficiencies as they deploy Ambio devices within large populations of chronic disease patients who are at high risk of hospitalization.
The Ambio system features:
Plug and play set up with no configuration required
Automatic readings
5000 sq. ft. transmission range
Patients can invite family and professional care partners to join their “care circle” – which allows those providing support to the patient to access the data and view results. Members of the care circle can also set up reminders for the patient to take readings and medications, as well as create a points and rewards system for achieving targets.
Jones notes that health monitoring has become an increasingly important issue in healthcare. “Industry studies show that 90% of seniors aged 65+ would like to ‘age in place,’ but since most of them have chronic diseases, family members are concerned about their health status, especially when they are not able to visit every day. Surveys show that a large percentage of seniors aged 65 + and their families would use remote health monitoring if made affordable.”
Adds Jones: “In addition, numerous studies have shown that remote health monitoring reduces expensive hospitalizations and ER visits for chronic diseases such as heart disease, lung disease and diabetes. However, most remote health monitoring solutions can only be cost-justified for those most at risk of hospitalization.”
According to the PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Health Research Institute “Healthcare Unwired” report, 88% of physicians would like their patients to be able to track and/or monitor their health at home, with the greatest interest in monitoring weight, blood sugar and vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate respiratory rate). The American Heart Association recommends home monitoring for all people with high blood pressure to help the healthcare provider determine whether treatments are working.
