New LifeBio Talk Grant is Awarded and LifeBio Expands Use of AI

MARYSVILLE, OH, OH, UNITED STATES, December 7, 2024 / -- LifeBio Talk is the 3rd SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) grant awarded to LifeBio, Inc. by the National Institute on Aging. LifeBio Talk will be developed and tested in the next 12 months, offering a new breakthrough solution for direct engagement for people living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The LifeBio Talk prototype will be developed and tested in conjunction with LifeBio's clinical trial partner, Brown Geriatric Medicine's, Rhode Island Hospital.

LifeBio Talk's easy-to-use interface will provide specialized content introduced in a streamlined, enjoyable manner. During 2025, the LifeBioTalk clinical trial will include monitoring usability and how engaged users are with specific on-screen experiences. Importantly, LifeBio Talk will measure exactly what segments of content were most acceptable for people living with dementia. Research will also focus on caregivers and if LifeBio Talk provided brief periods of respite.

In other news, the LifeBio Memory life story and reminiscence therapy app has deployed a new LifeBio AI model to automate summarization of individual’s full life stories. The voice recordings of older adults are saved inside LifeBio Memory's HIPAA-compliant interface, and they are processed with 99.9% accuracy from speech to text. Now, AI also summarizes and automatically organizes the person's story with life history, background info, and specific care information and preferences useful in daily care. Digital LifeBio Snapshot and Action Plan summaries provide actionable insights for providers to use in care planning. These summaries are integrated with electronic health record systems for ongoing access. In 2024, the results from a clinical trial of the LifeBioMEMORY app were issued by the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging. The app was found to reduce depressive symptoms for people living with dementia and to increase the knowledge of staff of residents' life stories and care preferences.

Related to research results, a peer-reviewed journal article was published on the LifeBio Brain cognitive screening prototype. This usability study was conducted in conjunction with Brown Medicine's Rhode Island Hospital. LifeBio Brain was developed to make screening tests less burdensome and more enjoyable for patients and clinicians. It will be an alternative to the widely used paper-and-pen-based cognitive tests.  Read more here: https://bmcdigitalhealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s44247-024-00123-7
