AAA FOUNDATION, POSIT SCIENCE JOIN TOGETHER TO MAKE DRIVERS SAFER
AAA Foundation Recommends Brain Fitness Software to Cut Auto Crash Risk, Improve Driving
WASHINGTON, D.C.-July 13, 2009 -The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety today announced that it would join with Posit Science, the leading provider of brain fitness programs, to enhance driver safety by improving drivers' minds. The AAA Foundation is recommending a new, ground-breaking safety program called DriveSharp(tm) which Posit Science released to the public today. DriveSharp is an interactive series of game-like computer exercises shown in independent studies to improve reaction time, reduce crash risk and increase control in most driving conditions.
"Part of making our nation's roads safer is helping mature drivers who wish to stay active - a quickly growing population - maintain or improve their driving safety," said AAA Foundation CEO Peter Kissinger. "We are very excited to join with Posit Science in bringing this unique technology to everyone looking for ways to think faster on the road."
DriveSharp consists of two computer-based exercises with over ten hours of play that improves reaction time, visual processing speed, useful field of view and driving ability. DriveSharp's technology has been extensively validated in studies funded by the National Institutes of Health and its benefits documented in dozens of peer-reviewed articles in leading science and medical journals.
Most notably, the technology in DriveSharp has been shown to cut crash risk by up to 50 percent, improve stopping distance by up to 22 feet at 55 miles per hour, and assist drivers in maintaining safe driving abilities as they age.
"With DriveSharp you're tracking two, three or even four moving objects at one time," said Roselyn Snell, a 67-year-old experimental user from San Diego. "That relates to my driving because you have to keep your eye on everything on the freeway: the cars moving behind you, in front of you, and changing lanes."
"Our goal at Posit Science is to get science out of the lab and into the real world where it can make a difference in people's lives," said Steven Aldrich, CEO of Posit Science. "Our partnership with AAA Foundation represents a milestone in achieving that goal for millions of American drivers."
Pricing and Availability
DriveSharp retails for $139, but is available for $129 at www.drivesharpnow.com. Participating AAA clubs are offering DriveSharp to members at the discounted price of $99 for a limited time only. Please contact your local club for details.
